The idea behind Dave And The Slaves is primarily nonsensical and idiotic fun. While Dave, himself, is actually a fairly miserable person, his band, the Slaves, was an irrereverent and fun endeavor. In the studio, experimentation and adventure were the norm. Consequently, the average Slaves song avoids the conventions of the time and proceeds into the realm of the unusual and occassionally bizarre. The beginnings of Dave And The Slaves were modest enough. In fact, the name "Dave & The Slaves" came before any songs were committed to tape. The name was simply an off-the-cuff band name tossed out by a bootlegger in the Pittsburgh area. Dave remembered the name when the time came to name his new band. It was the perfect name to describe the ludicrous music, as well as the autocratic rule Dave maintained in the studio while making that music. While an adventuresome spirit was encouraged, Dave almost always insisted on having things go his way. For better or worse, the other musicians were simply slaves in Dave's eyes. The more subservient the better.

Everybody Boogie
Archives Volume 1: 1989 TO 1991
The first volume of the Dave And The Slaves Archives attempts to bring together a complete collection of the early Dave & The Slaves catalogue, as well as a few unreleased songs, outtakes, and alternate versions. The tracks presented in this anthology were all digitally remastered, under Dave's supervision, from the original master tapes. In all cases where remixing was necessary, Dave had the final approval. Now sit back and enjoy the utter nonsense, occasional garbage, and wacky fun that is Dave & The Slaves.

Archives Volume 2: 1991 TO 1999
The second volume of the Dave And The Slaves Archives picks up roughly where where the first volume leaves off. Following the Summer 1991 sessions, Dave And The Slaves largely ceased to exist, except for a few one-off recordings. Consequently, while Volume One of the Archives covered only 2 years, Volume Two covers 8 years. These years, known as the "Lost Years When Dave Discovered Rap" to fans, were marked by dramatic stylistic changes, and large stretches of inactivity. Nevertheless, the quality of the work is frequently quiet excellent, and often passable.
