About Ant In A Hailstorm
Who Are You?
I am in my late thirties and I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have a wife and two children. I have a full time job that provides a decent middle class life. I don't include my real name on the blog because my opinions, on occasion, are a little controversial, and I don't want future employers to see them.
Why Does This Blog Exist?
This blog is an excuse for me to write. Knowing that I have this blog helps me to organize my thoughts into concepts as opposed to having random thoughts that don't go anywhere. Even though the audience of this blog is quite small, I consider it relatively important to post with some frequency. Regardless of how many people read it, over a period of time, I'll have a collection of writings about a variety of topics instead of nothing.
What Is Your Educational Background?
I have a degree in political science from the University Of Pittsburgh. I also attended an art school near Philadelphia for two years and three semesters at a university where some students were once murdered by the national guard.
What Is Your Political Ideology?
I try to approach issues as an observer rather than as a partisan. That's what a Political Science degree affords me. Instead of taking a particular stand on an issue, I'll frequently hedge, and consider the relevance of the issue in the context of our political institutions. I try to allow alternative perspectives to influence me. I don't usually like to read material with which I agree. Instead, I prefer to have my ideas challenged by alternative ideas.
Why Do You Occasionally Write About Celebrities?
I write about celebrities from time to time because there are certain celebrities that I really dislike. I pay enough attention to pop culture to form opinions about these people. I'm also a gossip hound.
What Does "Ant In A Hailstorm" mean?
"Ant In A Hailstorm" is a phrase I spontaneously used several years ago while describing my ability to influence a variety of issues with which I was confronted. When I started the original version of this blog, I remembered that phrase, and used it as my blog name because it seemed to be a metaphor for the relevance of my ideas. I think that an ant in a hailstorm would be in a very precarious situation, yet it may also be possible that the ant could avoid being being hit by the hail.
